The Duchess Chips for Process-Specific Wire Capacitance Characterization
The oscillation frequency of a ring of identical inverters depends on the number of inverters in the ring and upon the load borne by each. As the load increases, so does the delay in each inverter, and the frequency of oscillation decreases accordingly. The minimum possible load is a combination of the inverter's own parasitic output capacitance and the input capacitance of the next inverter in the ring. This paper releases a collection of ring oscillator experiments.

Real-Time Lens Distortion Correction: 3D Video Graphics Cards Are Good for More Than Games
Optical lens systems suffer from non-linear radial distortion. Image-based applications require distortion compensation for the accurate location, registration and measurement of image features, and a real-time capability is desirable for interactive systems. A texture-mapping graphics accelerator can use corresponding meshes of distorted and undistorted nodes along with the dynamic distorted image to render high quality distortion-corrected images at video frame rates. Mesh generation, an error analysis, and performance results are presented. The proposed polar-based method is shown to have both more accuracy than a conventional grid-based approach and greater speed than the traditional method of using the CPU to transform each pixel individually.

What's All the Static About?
Building an ESD-Safe Packaging Environment - from the Ground Up.<br><br>"Smaller and faster" is the mantra of today's electronics design engineer. Unfortunately, it's also the recipe for heightened electrostatic discharge (ESD). The smaller and faster the device, the higher the ESD sensitivity. And, simply put, that's what all the static is about.<br><br> ESD threatens product quality and reliability, and impacts everyone from the component manufacturer to the end user. In fact, ESD damage costs the electronics industry billions of dollars each year. That's enough to shock manufacturers into taking a closer look at how their devices are produced, assembled, packaged, and shipped.

Clocking Strategy for a Virtex-II-Pro DDR SDRAM Controller
DDR SDRAMs break with the traditional system synchronous clocking approach, that uses only one global and skewless clock distribution network. The application of DDR SDRAMs requires a source synchronous clocking concept that simultaneously transmits clock and data signals from the memory controller to the DDR SDRAM devices. From the perspective of this source synchronous clocking concept, many timing problems disappear and using DDR SDRAMs is quite straightforward. This paper discusses a clocking strategy for a DDR SDRAM Controller IP implemented in a Xilinx Virtex-II-Pro FPGA.
