Baxter Healthcare Data Management Grows Stronger With IBM and REAL Solutions

Baxter International Inc. (Baxter, www.baxter.com) is a global healthcare company, manufacturing medical devices, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology products. At Baxter, multiple production systems, each with isolated, local data storage requirements, were proving hard to manage and costly to maintain. Working with IBM Business Partner REAL Solutions (REAL, www.realsolutionsuk.com), Baxter selected a Storage Area Network (SAN) based on two IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Storage Server (ESS) systems, providing up to 22TB of storage for all connected server platforms, regardless of type or vendor. tech news

HVB Bank Biochim Accelerates Processes and Improves Resilience With a New zSeries Solution From IBM

Central Bucks School District Makes the Grade With an IBM Solution

The Central Bucks School District (CBSD) manages some 25 elementary, middle and high schools in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. To keep up with changing technology and enrich the quality of education that it offers to students, CBSD sought to update its systems and augment its processes. In 2001, CBSD signed a deal to lease a private fiber-optic network that would connect all the sites around the district to the administration center, and more specifically to a new network operations center that was under construction at the time. In addition to the new server and storage solution, CBSD implemented a new voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) system. tech news

Managing the Device Addressing of SAN Attached Tape for Use With Tivoli Storage Manager

Fibre Channel based SANs provide a flexible way of connecting storage devices and hosts over a shared network. Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) exploits the bandwidth and connectivity to provide LAN-Free backup and library sharing capabilities using shared tape devices over the SAN. However, the building of SANs to support the use of shared tape devices must take into account a number of considerations specific to the use of tape. These are required to ensure that the addition of new storage devices, or that the removal or failure of existing devices on the SAN does not result in TSM operational failures when using shared tape devices. tech news
