Printek Case Study: Rayovac

Rayovac is the third largest U.S. manufacturer of batteries. Rayovac markets the number one selling domestic rechargeable brand battery, and is the world leader in hearing aid batteries. Their partnership with Printek came about when Rayovac was in the process of implementing an ERP system, SAP/R3. Rayovac's legacy mainframe based printers were not compatible with the new system. The Printek FormsMaster 8000 met or exceeded all of Rayovac Corporation's selection criteria for their mission critical printing needs. Rayovac chose the FormsMaster 8000 with a built-in Ethernet interface that eliminated the need for an external server. tech news

Printek Case Study: American Airlines

Printek's PrintMaster 850 was recently approved for use throughout American Airlines Maintenance group by E.D.S. / Sabre. Extensive tests were performed by the Platform Development Group on the PM850 and PM850 w/Ethernet. After two months of testing, the PrintMaster 850 was given the green light, and is now the preferred impact printer at American Airlines. tech news

GPFS/NSD on Linux/xSeries Using a 1 Gigabit Ethernet Network

A series of tests were conducted to evaluate GPFS performance for HPC applications on Linux clusters. The clusters in this test were x345-based systems using FAStT900 disk controllers and EXP700 disk drawers. This paper summarizes and interprets the results of the benchmark test. It also proposes alternative untested designs that were suggested by these results. tech news

GPFS/NSD on Linux/xSeries Using a 100 Megabit Ethernet Network

A series of four benchmark tests were completed to evaluate GPFS performance for HPC applications on Linux clusters. The clusters in this test were x345-based systems using FAStT900 disk controllers and EXP700 disk drawers. Each test was conducted on a different cluster network configuration [Gigabit Ethernet (GbE), bonded GbE, 100 Megabit Ethernet (MbE), and Myrinet]. This paper summarizes and interprets the results of this test. tech news

NEC Electronics Embedded DRAM Over 10 Gbps Sonet/SDH and Ethernet Takes Off

The amount of data traffic through the IP backbone is doubling every year. This means that it is no longer reasonable to expect network data processing systems to keep pace with performance requirements through improvements to large-scale integration processes only. To meet these application requirements, NEC Electronics provides complete solutions for 10 Gbps line cards in OC-192c/STM-64c systems and 10 Gbps Ethernet systems. Together, the 200-MHz random access embedded DRAM and newly developed Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF)-compliant System Packet Interface Level-4 Phase 2 (SPI4.2) interface core promise lower power consumption, higher memory integration, higher speed, and lower soft error rates. The efficiency of these solutions has been proven in the evaluation chip described in this paper. tech news
