Central Bucks School District Makes the Grade With an IBM Solution

The Central Bucks School District (CBSD) manages some 25 elementary, middle and high schools in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. To keep up with changing technology and enrich the quality of education that it offers to students, CBSD sought to update its systems and augment its processes. In 2001, CBSD signed a deal to lease a private fiber-optic network that would connect all the sites around the district to the administration center, and more specifically to a new network operations center that was under construction at the time. In addition to the new server and storage solution, CBSD implemented a new voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) system. tech news

Network Appliance Filers Competitive Fibre Channel Performance: Comparing NetApp FAS Storage With EMC CLARiiON Arrays Using Cached Read Performance

Fibre Channel storage subsystems are complex computing systems. Because each system has its strengths and weaknesses, no single figure of merit captures the relative performance of storage systems across all workloads. This paper compares the Network Appliance FAS line of storage systems to EMC CLARiiON storage systems using cached read workloads as a metric of performance. tech news

Fujitsu Case Study: L-Bank (Baden-Wurttemberg State Bank)

With a unique technological concept in German banking so far, L-Bank in Baden-Wrttemberg has satisfied the demanding requirements of business-critical computing and placed the efficiency and security of its data center operations on a new platform. In this project, in which Fujitsu Siemens Computers played a key part, one of the two data centers located in Karlsruhe was moved to Stuttgart, and a real-time link was established between the two sites using fiber-optic cables that extend from 100 kilometers. As a result of this, the two data centers operate as a single virtual center despite having to overcome this considerable distance. They are both, fully integrated in operations and so ensure maximum protection against failure. tech news

Connectrix Fabric Security

As storage area networks (SANs) become an increasingly critical component to the daily activities and the livelihood of companies, the need for securing the SAN has been elevated to a higher priority in data centers. In the past, corporate security policies have not directly impacted SAN activities. Today, there is a growing desire to lock down access to the Fibre Channel switched fabric infrastructure. This white paper focuses on the security aspects of the Fibre Channel component of the SAN. It pays particular attention to access restrictions for end nodes and other FC switches. tech news
