Load BalancingSirius: Statistical Interpretations of a Real Inventory of UNIX Servers Calculating the total aggregate server load in the 'wrong' way can result in significant (>2 x) over-provisioning of total server capacity. This is an especially important consideration when calculating the total capacity required for a single large server needed to virtualise and replace many small, often under-utilized servers. This paper illustrates the method and useful graphical representations of some of the more important considerations.

Sizing Large-Scale Domino Workloads on iSeries In 2002 a large iSeries customer asked IBM to recommend configurations for its expanding Domino workloads. At the time they lacked performance data for environments similar to the customer's, which consisted of large-scale Domino workloads characterized by large mail files, documents with multiple attachments, frequent searching of documents, and full-text indexing (FTI). So IBM launched a 12-week benchmarking study to analyze workloads in these environments. This paper makes recommendations based on the findings and identifies additional resources to help readers size large-scale Domino environments on iSeries.

Scalability and Remedy Action Request System 6.0 This paper discusses how Action Request System (AR System) can scale within an enterprise environment, and how, by combining additional hardware resources with some of the scaling features of AR System, one can create a truly worldwide enterprise application. AR System has been designed to scale to the limits of its central processing unit (CPU), memory, and disk sub-systems configurations. This paper focuses on those features that can help make AR System scale as application demand, or breadth of applications, increases in an organization.

Align IT With the Business: Introducing Remedy's IT/Business Alignment Cycle This paper discusses how Action Request System (AR System) can scale within an enterprise environment. It focuses on those features that can help make AR System scale as application demand, or breadth of applications, increase in an organization. It presents adjustments that can be made from a hardware perspective to help make the system scale, as well as features built into AR System to allow it to scale with system hardware. The paper concludes with customer examples of how AR System has scaled with various hardware configurations to meet the application demands of customer organization.

Configuring Highly Available OracleAS Infrastructure With F5's BIG-IP Load Balancer The hardware load balancer is an integral part of the architecture and provides load balancing as well as failover capabilities. Besides this, the SSL accelerator feature of the load balancer can also be used to act as a SSL proxy for HTTPS based connections for Single Sign On and DAS. For high availability, the load balancer is always deployed redundantly. This paper describes the configuration and operational best practices associated with using F5's BIG-IP load balancer with an HA Infrastructure deployment.
