Deliver Customized Services With Service-Driven Metro Networks

Join Cisco Product Manager Wesley Mukai as he discusses how to combine multiple services over a common infrastructure in order to deliver high-speed, customized services to your enterprise customers. Explore the Cisco five-step approach to building Metro Ethernet networks. Examine Metro Ethernet-based services and their associated service-level agreements (SLAs), and obtain valuable technical information about sample network architectures and product and solution options. tech news

IEEE 802.16 WirelessMAN Specification Accelerates Wireless Broadband Access

This article explains how the new IEEE 802.16 standard and WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability of Microwave Access) will standardize and promote wireless broadband as a wireless alternative to digital subscriber line (DSL) and cable that can help remove barriers to broadband access. The 802.16 standard defines the Wireless MAN (metropolitan area network) air interface specification (officially known as the IEEE WirelessMAN standard). This wireless broadband access standard could supply the missing link for the "last mile" connection in wireless metropolitan area networks. tech news

IEEE Advances Wireless MAN Standard

The IEEE approved 802.16a, an amendment to the IEEE Standard 802.16-2001. The original standard specifies the WirelessMAN-SC air interface, a single-carrier (SC) modulation scheme designed to operate in the 10-66 GHz spectrum. That spectrum supports continuously varying traffic levels at many licensed frequencies (including 10.5, 25, 26, 31, 38 and 39 GHz) for two-way communications. tech news

Frame Relay & Ethernet - Unified with a Single MPLS Infrastructure

In this paper, the focus is on the use of Martini tunneling to support both Frame Relay and Ethernet services in metropolitan networks. Part I of the paper discusses the state of Frame Relay deployments worldwide. Part II explains how Ethernet and MPLS have become part of the metro landscape. Part III details how MPLS can be used to carry both Frame Relay and Ethernet traffic over a combined Ethernet/MPLS infrastructure. Part IV provides detail on L2 MPLS VPN technology, while Part V provides a practical guide to deploying a multi-service MPLS metro network. tech news

Amdahl IT Services Case Study: The Abbey National Milton Keynes Fibre Network

The Abbey National Group, one of the UKs leading financial services provider, recently awarded a major contract to Amdahl IT services to implement a significant enhancement to the companys fibre optic network that links three locations in Milton Keynes. This work is part of an ongoing relationship between the two companies, which started more than five years ago when Abbey National realized that ultra-high bandwidth connections between its locations was a priority both for cost-effectiveness and heavy-traffic capacity. tech news
