In the Stuttgart government offices the administration of written records is divided between 5 records offices with a total of 51 records officers. As part of working procedure the records officer enters the electronic document itself, together with its corresponding meta-information, into the document management system. The document is then printed out and the file reference is noted on the document. This is where the barcoding system comes in - and very efficiently too.
